Zimbabwe’s power-sharing deal was thrown into chaos today when state police arrested a member of the Movement for Democratic Change only days before he was to be sworn into the new government.

Roy Bennett, who was due to become the Deputy Minister for Agriculture in the government of national unity between Morgan Tsvangirai's party, the Movement for Democratic Change, and Robert Mugabe's Zanu (PF), was arrested in Harare.

Ian Makone, the Chief Secretary to Mr Tsvangirai, the Prime Minister, said that it was unclear why Mr Bennett, who is the treasurer of the MDC, was arrested. But his party said he had been taken to a “notorious torture and interrogation base”.

Well, I guess we all saw it coming, Mugabe always cheats when he thinks he's losing power...

Bennett has been released. The charge is still in his face.
More good news: Mugabe's wife has just bought a handbag for $10.000 US 😞

Robert Mugabe has never, ever entered into an agreement in good faith. He has always reneged or found a way out and this goes back to the Joshua Nkomo days. This is why the so-called power sharing agreement is a farce - no matter how it is dressed. The agreement WILL be broken by Mugabe using whatever excuses that have still to be cooked up. The man is a liar and a crook, end of story.

I think the only way to really get him out of power is to start an ''iraq war style'' war in zimbabwe.

Or a coup d'etat maybe.

No, not at all. It's only the dumb media that seems to endlessly hold out hopes for reconciliation, democracy and so forth. Surely most of us know that nothing positive is going to happen in Zimbabwe until Mugabe's dead.

He's in his eighties, he'll probably lose power simply by dying.

I just hope he doesn't send the country even further into the abyss while he approaches his own death throes.

Surely, the MDC will seize power... But who knows.

there's no guarantee that he'll die in the next, lets say 5 years, plus since he's rich he would be able to afford good doctors in case something happened.

How?

Its pretty obvious that the opposition is only existent because of international pressure, if people didn't care I think Mugabe wouldn't hesitate to just kill them all.

Maybe he will die next year, maybe in 10 years... in any case, he'll probably lose power because he died.

Any s.o.b. dies one day. Should "the world" back off and wait for this to happen, or help him die a little faster? Or yes, get his ass in the Hague, together with the rest of his gorilla's (which would make The Hague the first dutch city over a million).
