According to MSN, the number of Americans killed in the war in Iraq went over the 1,000 mark today as an upsurge in resistance forces attacks have killed 14 American servicemen in the last two days.
Estimates of the number of Iraqis killed are 20,000 - 30,000 with no end in sight. I start this thread with no huge political agenda; just to mark and mourn the deaths of so many to accomplish so little.

I can't help but be alarmed every time MSNBC refers to it as 'The New Iraq'...

What you suggest ? The US remove the troops and allow rebels to roam free, killing US loyalists ?

In Vietnam the US was criticised for removing all their troops, in Iraw for keeping the troops there in attempt to stabilise the country ?

It's a lose/lose situation according to the opinion pole really.

I didn't really mean this thread to be a debate about the wisdom of the Iraq war; if I had wanted that I would have put it in the Debate Forum. I just wanted to mark and mourn the passing of so many. In retrospect I should have left out "to accomplish so little" as that sounds like an attempt to politicize the human tragedy which was not my intention. I would ask people who want to debate the wisdom of the war to start a thread in the Debate forum.Thank you.

Is mankind shifting slowly into barbarism. I consider ourselves civilized when problems are solved without violence. but violence in every form seemed to have crept into every way of life. i wonder whether natures policy of the survival of the fittest was right ,it produced the fittest race so fit that after conquering everything else it has nothing else to fight with and turns on itself.mankind seems to be natures's biggest folly.
just joking.lets settle our battles in chess
