Let's say you are watching the high jump or pole vault for example, you can't see whether or not the bar has been knocked off. You can't see foot faults in the triple and long jumps. In fact, I don't think you would know what on Earth was going on. The television gives you a much better insight into what is going on.
I hope it is Paris!
The French pay and the events will still be easy to get to.

You're right - we'll probably try to do it on the cheap, and it'll show. I'm not too bothered who gets it, really, my main concern being that if we do get it the press will talk about nothing else in 2012.
We should learn from other recent Olympic venues and see the games for the national disaster they really are.
Why London, not somewhere more central like Birmingham or Manchester?
Not only have the facilities not yet been built, but the prospective developers don't even own the land!
All it will take is for a couple of old fogies to refuse to sell the houses they have lived in since the war, and the whole project will become mired in legal wrangling; then backers will lose confidence, things will fall behind schedule, and the Athens stadium-finished-on-the-day debacle will look like a well-oiled machine by comparison.
No-one has the capacity for screwing things up like us Brits.
Well, hurray for London. I have just come back from Trafalgar Square where no-one can quite believe what has just happened. The general mood seems to be one of 'Oh, that went rather better than expected, didn't it?' I think it's a great thing for my city and I look forward to welcoming your compatriots from around the world in 2012 ..

Yeah it sucks that it will be in London if we get it. Birmingham's not the nicest of placest but Manchester would definitely benefit more and be more capable of holding the event. I mean, it's not like the North-South divide needs widening
Not up against Paris, NY, etc.
Keep it down south, that's what I say.
Londoners can deal with it all...
