a line between those who believe or not in heaven and hell. it splits up both sides, but it doesn't have to, if people respect ones decisions in life/death.

forget about the next lifetime, this can create heaven and hells in this lifetime from people feeling they are right to over-impose their own belief of where they stand!
The problem that I see is with groups, like the christians and the muslims, who believe in an exclusionary after life. You only get to go to heaven if you believe in our God or our prophet or our saviour. Add to that an inherent belief that those who are unworthy of the after life are also unworthy of kindness on earth and you create a sort of hell.
