At grantland.com there is a piece called your favorite team doesn't give a damn about you in which the author although a Charger fan shares much of your sentiments about pro sports.

EVERY city is inept at negotiating these types of deals.

They WANT the pro sports for the revenue generation and taxes.
It isn't the other way around.

They bend over and cut deals to get them.
Adams did have a lease.
He bought it out courtesy of the fools in Nashville.

The fact that cities are inept at negotiating these deals (or don't really care if it is a bad deal, they want short term credit for attracting/ keeping a team) is one of the major reasons why citizens should vote against using their money for private teams.

I agree. I believe the sports teams should bear the burden.
They should then reap the rewards from their ticket sales.

The city gets a tax collection, but no debt service.
