LOL, shav! we are repeating to each other between the 2 threads 😀
in the other thread, i said that the humour encourages the repetition.
i can't speak for breaca, but i think the humour is the harassment.
for instance, despite your superb posting abilities and your considerable contributions, some people see you as being stoned part of the time and ...[text shortened]... ment, but i really couldn't go to a teacher, since i was the teacher 😀

This is where, Prad, I think it does make a difference someone's gender, because the thread was started by a woman talking about being offended as a woman.
I am a woman. And I have to say that in my experience on RHP for what, 3 years now, not once have I felt offended or degraded as a woman. Jokes and humor are jokes and humor and you have to take i ...[text shortened]... ept for normal gender stuff such as "I just got beat by a girl!". Nothing offensive there.
however, your personal experience doesn't change the situation at all - not for the individuals who have experienced it and not for the site.
the point is it does happen here - not as much as somewhere else perhaps, but that is probably a combination of
1) excellent mods
2) a large percentage of decent gender-unbiasable individuals
3) people who do respect the TOS
4) people who speak out when the TOS is violated
since you haven't been insulted, you speak well about the state of things here.
but you can plainly see that some don't feel that way and in this thread there are several who clearly said that they don't want things to ever get to a state where women do get insulted.
that would surely suggest vigilance and action are in order, rather than complacency.
i too like the site - and in large part because of the people here. i certainly don't want them to feel they should worry about being harrassed.

Just to throw another spanner into the works...
I have a friend who is a Male to Female transsexual, and she whups my bottom at chess every time we play.
Of course there is no link between gender and chess ability.
Males and females are equally intelligent, equally sporting and equally ruthless.
The only difference I have noticed here is that the female members of RHP seem to be more chatty than the male members, which generally makes a game more enjoyable, as it seems more like playing a person than a computer.

You floozy 😉
(Oops! Was that a sexist comment? What is the gender of 'floozy' anyway? and who is 'You' in this construction?)
I just want to say what a great post that is Breaca and unfortunately I agree that there are(maybe a minority but still there) sexist guys on here who struggle to play chess against us girls without classic putdowns. I expect as a low rated player I experience it a lot less than you do Breaca and I've yet to put myself in the firing line over the board anywhere!
However on the plus side most of the guys on the site are great 🙂.
11 recs for your post Breaca, that just shows how much of an issue this is-as well as how beautifully expressed your sentiments are. 🙂

I agree that most people on the site are great, that is exactly why it is worth striving for perfection, more than that, why we must strive for perfection.
An honest man once said, that if something seems too good to be true, then it is our duty to make it so. If we are willing to settle for second best, then we will never be any better than second best. RHP is already a fantastic cosmopolitan community, but is nothing without us, would be nothing without diversity, and we are nothing without being true to ourselves and our neighbours.
Most harrassment stems from low self esteem on the side of the bully, and whether blatant or shrouded in "humour" is designed to inflict negative feelings. I feel that rather than trying to downgrade others, purely because of their diffences, we should be improving our self until the words others and self become interchangeable
My considered opinion on such matters is that men are better than women at what they are good at. Women are better than men at what they are good at. And there are exceptions. Some men can cook very well. Some women can best men at their own game. Susan Butcher was a great sled dog racer. She beat the men at their own game. I think her woman's touch with her dog's gave her a advantage the men could not compete with.

I am the first to admit I like to flirt and be a bit naughty, but it is all in fun. I have had very few problems with men being unkind or rude, except , of course, for StarValleyWay, who is very rude and insulting. I have had the odd man who has been rude in a game, insinuating that I am a bad chess player because I am a woman. In fact, I am a bad ...[text shortened]... , as oppossed to Yahoo, where that sort of thing is quite rampant. I feel very comfortable here.

Sometimes you have to look at the content more than the words. Do I feel that Cribs is in any way trying to degrade women with his posts? Has Cribs ever, by his words, come across as trying to degrade women. No. If he were, THEN I would be offended.
Here's an example in an opposite light. Not the best example, but I am pressed for time. Posted by elvendreamgirl: This reminds me of the joke about the dumb guy who finds his wife with another man. He grabs a gun and says he is gonna kill all three of them. He starts with himself.....
Is she degrading men by calling this guy dumb, and should offense be taken by men? No. It's a joke.
