There is a dove in my backyard that was flopping around and then he/she calmed down but it can't fly.
It crawled into the bush and has been there for 3 hours.
It looked like it was convulsing like it was poisoned but now it is just sitting there.
At first he/she was scared of me and would flop around trying to get away from me but the dove is more calm now.
I gave it some peanuts but giving it water is a problem since a wild bird does not understand a dish with water in it.
My girl and her son won't let me bring it inside so it can be comfortable or at least die in comfort.
Any ideas?
He/She just sits there looking at me.
I feel bad about it.
We have some vicious raccoons here and I know they will eat a Dove because they eat my trash.
I am so mad I can't do anything.
4 hours until the raccoons decend on my backyard like clockwork.
@e4e5f4d5 saidWrap it in a towel and take it to the vet.

I went out with a towel and a box and when I dropped the towel it flew away real fast.
My wife seems to think it was pregnant but I am no bird expert.
I thought it was a broken wing but it took off like a pheasant when it saw the towel.
Maybe it's nest was destroyed and it is in labour?
It perched on a tree branch in the neighbors yard so I hope it is ok.
I'll be up all night thinking about it now 😔

an unpopular opinion
shoot it
‘Tom’, a publican in our ‘small town’ put a thread in the local facebook hub regarding a young racing pigeon which had discovered his pub on it’s journey home from a race. The pigeon seemed to like the atmosphere of this small pub and would frequently fly in or sit outside under the parasols, among the customers . It created a lot of interest and excitement in our small town with a number of people posting replies on facebook of ways in which Tom could get the pigeon to leave, some of them pretty final though all meant in jest I felt. Anyway, my ex, an ex pigeon owner, took the pigeon home and put it in his garage for a few days. He said that after a rest it would find it’s way back home. After three days the pigeon had to be encouraged out of the garage because he liked it there so much and was staying put. As expected the pigeon returned to the pub. A few days later someone took the pigeon for a drive and let it go. As expected the pigeon returned to the pub. Tom then decided that he would take the pigeon home and keep it as a pet for his young daughters so my ex set about a design for a pigeon house and Tom identified a carpenter to make it. Whilst living there if the pigeon continued to pop over to the pub Tom would be able to just bring it home in the car with him every evening.
On 1st September I received a final update on the pigeon from my ex via Whatsapp. It showed the pigeon resting on a stool outside the pub stating ‘Settled in for the evening’. What happened next was that a customer who had been sat nearby, chatting with a couple, walked into the pub carefully picking the pigeon up on his way. “Where’s he taking the pigeon?” my ex asked, “Oh he’s going to irritate the barmen” was the reply. A few moments later my ex went into the pub to get another pint. “Where’s the pigeon?” he asked the barman. The barman’s reply was that a man had just walked into the pub and ripped it’s head off and he showed my ex a pic of the blood stains all over the floor.
True story; something that happened in my small town last week. Pretty tragic, a cruel and unnecessary savage act upon a tiny, trusting, defenceless bird. I’ve had a sick ache in my heart ever since 😢
@e4e5f4d5 saidA small concussion? I’ve rescued small birds that appeared unconscious after hitting my window by wrapping them in a tea towel then placing them in a well ventilated cardboard box and leaving them in a quiet, place for an hour or so. When you later open the box if recovered the bird will suddenly fly out.

@drewnogal saidIn a few moments between the man and your ex going into the bar the pigeon had been decapitated and the barman had readied a photo of the blood stain?

@divegeester saidCan’t comment upon the exact time sequence as wasn’t there but it happened fairly quickly. The man had apparently said to another customer inside the pub “shall I kill it?” and the other man replied “go on then” and he did. The barman was fairly new and quite young. He had to deal with the mess. The police are involved.
