Not everyone has the time to keep up with what happens in the chess
world so I thought I would post one piece of news.
Earlier this week, Grandmaster Eduard Gufeld died having never
recovered from a stroke two weeks earlier.
Born in the Ukraine in 1936, was one of the strongest players of the
late '50s and early 60's defeating nearly all of the dominant Soviet
contingent of that era at one time or another. His style was attacking,
well-considered, and original.
Gufeld was known as a teacher/trainer, lecturer, motivator and author
having produced over 100 chess books. His books ranged from lighter
surveys such as "An Opening Repetoire for the Attacking Player" to
more in-depth analysis such as "The Complete Dragon". He was an
avid King's Indian player which says much to me alone.
I didn't always agree with what he said, but the lectures and books
were always interesting, and somehow just a little inspiring.
Good journey, Eduard.
