on another site RHP has gone from 120K members to 40K members and most of those are free. He also stated the reason (for the membership drop) was at least partly due to forum bullying.

The mod is from a site that rhymes with chesssphere.com

Maybe he's internet savvy and/or genuinely concerned.

Really? I bet at least 119K of those members had never set foot in a forum.

Then why the alleged 'membership drop'?

Chess Format and Enhanced Features offer superior benefit.

Red Hot Pawn Subscription Fee remains an affordable value at $.11/day.

Game Moderation exposure of cheaters, over the long haul, has proven effective.

"119K Members" who've never set foot in a forum... your wager?

I would agree looking at the figures that the majority
of members do not visit the forums.

I'd be interested to know why the membership has dropped.

If the majority don't go on to the forums
then the bullying figures must be small
on those who do visit the forums.

it's a well known fact, without any data supporting, that 90% of the folks that use a site for its main purpose spend little or no time at all chatting with the other denizens...
hence, "119K Members who've never set foot in a forum"...

as to the reason he/she may be alluding to an alleged membership drop, read between the lines of ponderable's post, "you sure do talk about other chess sites a LOT" emphasis mine...

he/she is a plant, a rube, a spy...
sent to sow the seeds of dissension amongst the loyalists...

*yawn*

User ID numbers are well over 700,000 but there is no good way of telling how many of those are still active members, and I'm sure some members have multiple accounts, but still that is a pretty large number of people who have opened an account here.

Lots of those accounts are moribund.

As for multiple users, well that's against the TOS isn't it?

How do they combat that?

Looking at the OP's forum posting record I smell a hidden agenda here. Site membership and player statistics aren't exactly published in newspapers.
