About Grampy Bobby
No longer capable of tactical brilliancies. Quite content nowadays to hang about familiar
turf, festina lente, hopeful my opponents' errors/blunders may often exceed my own.
"You need not play well, just help your opponent to play badly." -Genrikh Chepukaitis.
“The tactician must know what to do whenever something needs doing; the strategist
must know what to do when nothing needs doing” -Savielly Tartakover. “It is the aim
of the modern school, not to treat every position according to one general law, but
according to the principle inherent in the position” -Richard Reti. “Chess is life” -Bobby
Fischer. “Only the player with the initiative has the right to attack” -Wilhelm Steinitz.
"My left is weakened. My right is broken. The situation is excellent. I'm on the attack."
Field Communiqué to Headquarters, Marshal Foch (French Commander, 1851-1929)

this thread is itself an example. the implication is that his only weaknesses are things we should in fact admire him for. his real Achilles' heels are his lack of insight into himself, and his desperate need, surely born out of a deep-seated sense of inferiority, to try to build himself up in the eyes of others, at every opportunity.
