Aversion therapy doesn't always work though, does it?

There is another question that frequently comes up related to this: "Is alcoholism a moral failing or a disease?" Regrettably the church often promotes it as a moral failing.

..go to the moors...at 4:00 a.m....wear red stockings....leave mulberry
leaves by the gang of crows you find at the rookery....( it is cold so a
little nip of the mash helps one get across the moors at that hour )...wait for sunrise...no one will come..the mulberry leaves will
dehydrate...the crows will fly away...finish your half pint in the car by
6:00....go to work...try it again next month...this is the life of a drinker
third or fourth generation ( maybe more -- they didn't know how to write much back then in my family )....

Well as long as you boozers don't cause troubles then that will do no harm but only to themselves. Enjoy your time but don't be arrested or become offensive/aggressive/nasty.

If you fall, try to turn off the chainsaw on the way down...

Maybe adddiction is a moral failing. As for those people who are prone to addiction, their biochemical/mental weakeness leads them to be a moral failure.

Sometimes people say, they drink too much because they've been treated badly/unfairly, being cheated, etc. A moral failing appeares to be everywhere nowadays.

Look, whether it's a moral failing or an incurable disease doesn't matter in one large respect: It ain't your bag. This is their trip, not your's. You're going to get wrapped aroung the addict's axle by focusing on them and not yourself.

You need to do your thing, solve your problems, and live your life and quit focusing on whether or not someone else is doing the same or not.

Life's hard enough when your head's up your ass, it's a lot nastier when it's up someone else's.

Alcoholism is a complex disease with physical, social and psychological consequences--not only for alcoholics but also for people closest to them.
