Hello all. I'm playing in my first tournament next weekend...Any tips? Which openings to use? Things to avoid? Anything? Thanks!
Don't go to the pub at lunch time.
Set yourself a target first.Like This is my first I'm just going to enjoy it,or I want a plus score.

2nd one completely wrong. You have to play the man. Intimidation is one of the key factors in tourneys. You have to make the move that will make him/her the most uncomfortable..which may or may not be the best move for the position.
And should you lose a game..don't kick yourself. Just let it go and get prepared for your next game.
Most of all try and have fun and meet new people...chess players make the best friends...cause we are all nerds together 😀
Let us know how it goes!!

One word: Grob
Play the openings you know. Hopefully you should have a defense against both e4 and d4...if Nf3 or c4 are played then try and just develop naturally if you don't have a line for those.
As for being white...1.e4!! Best by test!
