Ah! Hawking writes great stuff! I have read all of his works! As for needing great equipment for research in these areas-yes and no. Alot of physics, especially the theoretical and astrophysics are just done on paper I suppose. Theoretical physicists and astrophysicists and cosmologists, etc. are incredible mathematicians also. They have no choice. Some of the equations in the string theory cannot be solved by the human mind....so they approximately solve them.....I am getting way off track now! 😀
