yup-that's the one
(Sean sits at his computer for a long minute having an epiphany)
You know....I've seen that film about ten times.....and I'm not sure if I understand it! Ok, I'll put into words what I can (I can't believe this is so difficult). Um, Akira is a guy from a motorcycle gang and....something happens to him that makes him.....mutate sort of....and gets wierdo freaky powers to absorb/morph/envelop people and things. He starts destroying everything.....for some divine reason.....that is "explained" by these freaky telepathic/mystic children.
Ok, you know what, I'm just going to stop now before I get any more pathetic. I know, I haven't explained CRAP! Ok, I swear I used to understand this movie (or atleast I thought I did). As a big anime fan this really pisses me off. In one hours time I will be at home watching this movie! I guess I'll have to get back to you on this one too. I find myself wondering......was there ever really a well done plot to begin with? Hmmmm......😲🙄😕

Originally posted by Omnislashhehehe-my friend was explaining it to me as we were watching it last night...it's the end that really confuses me-he grows becasue the power is overtaking him (like an omeba with the power of a human). but then the universe is created. again. and the "bomb" (or whatever it is) takes forever to explode. and they all end up in his hand. and akira is in bits. but alive. yeah-i'm not confused...😕
Probably. I'll know in an hour. LOL! Look who's explaining to who now. I'm so ashamed....LOL!😀
*SPOILER FOR THE FILM* (this inserted with my edit:-))
*glances at his pc* hmmm 😀 thought I was in the wrong window there for a sec.
AKIRA
the manga*comic* is not different from the anime*film*
the anime is just condenced and leaves out some of the subplots - the general story is still the same. If you have read the manga you should know the story. to answer your question, Tetsuo becomes a new universe.
*alt tab's back into his anime downloads*
any further questions? 😛

Originally posted by rossroebut there are, apparently, 3 books about that weird lady with the hair that, in the film, supports akira. but in the book, she's against him...😛 also-doesn't the bar manager guy not die in the book? i'm going to try and read the books after my exams btw...

there are six thread paperbacks.*go read them!*
the bartender dies in the film as well, and again, several of the bigger subplots never made it to the anime.(unfortunatly)
still a good film though 😀
ps
have you seen Princess Mononoko? Or Vampire Hunter D - Bloodlust ?
I've seen Vampire Hunter D - OK, but not great. Devilman was better. Haven't seen the other.
Originally posted by rossroeSeen them. My favorite of those is Vampire Hunter D (worth legendary status if you ask me). Mononoko doesn't get a very high rating in my book, but that's just my preference. It was a good film, just not my thing.

My all time favorite: Ninja Scroll (the original, not any of that sequel crap)
My current flavor: X (as in the movie "X"😉 Has anyone seen the sequel?
Seen any good new releases that have full English translation (I'm not too fond of subs) ?
Some other noteables I enjoyed: Iria, Blood Reign: Curse of the Yoma, The Record of Lodoss War, and Armitage III.
I'm also a big fan of Dragon Ball. If anyone lives somewhere (like in the states) and REALLY can't wait for the rest to be released I CAN give away the end to the Z series, and anything about GT as well. E-mail me if you want to know (but mind you, it won't be as fun when you see it). 🙂
