Doesn't Dove have the best soap? π

Well, actually, no. It is silly to buy brand products like this. You pay more, you don't get more and you sponsor a horrible company. One (and all) is usually better off buying brandless products.

i quite like doves new "self esteem" foundsation thingy. albeit it is undoing the damage that i'm sure they inflicted, but it is better than most other companies...
plagarised from dove web site:
"What is the Dove® policy on animal testing?
Answer:
Dove and Unilever share your concern over this important matter and we are committed to the elimination of animal testing. We do NOT test any of our home or personal care products on animals. We will continue to work for alternative methods by participating in industry and scientific programs as well as to support legislation that promotes the elimination of animal testing. "
what they do test on animals i don't know, but i think it implies they test some things. just not home or personal care products. what else do they do?

A list of products (by far complete) to be ignored if one cares about animal testing:
Gemey Paris - L'Oréal
Sanex - Kortman Intradal
Lancaster - Lancaster group The Netherlands
Diadermine - Schwarzkopf & Henkel
Fa - Schwarzkopf & Henkel
Laboratoires Garnier - L'Oréal
Colgate - Colgate - Palmolive Nederland BV
Head & Shoulders - Proctor&Gamble
Dove - Unilever
L'Oreal - L'Oréal
Andrélon - Andrélon Lever Fabergé
Schwarzkopf - Schwarzkopf & Henkel
Palmolive - Colgate - Palmolive Nederland BV
andrelon - Andrélon Lever Fabergé
Usually the big names have their name to protect, and need clinical testing to make sure their product are really really really safe. Brandless products usually don't nescessary need to shine up their brand with tests. Not saying it is not happening, but you are usually saver with brandless products.
