you're serious?!
gmail is google's new free e-mail, 1 Gig of storage space, you can send up to 10 MB at a time and absolutely NO ads or junk.

it's beta testing at the moment so only invited people can join. Once you've joined, depending on how much email traffic you have, you get the chance to invite others...

That is not true. There are ads (see welcoming message), but they are so unobtrusive that they are not annoying whatsoever.

I have a bunch - but I haven't used any of my onlie email services in ages because of all the crap. Gmail is awsome - I want to have it's babies. no more hotmail for me ever again!
