Hey folks, was wondering if anyone was into running on a regular basis as I have become keen and am looking to buy some decent running shoes. I have a medium arch I think but I supinate quite a bit. Was wondering if anyone else has this unusual habit and if so what shoes are best? I've heard that Asics are a good brand. Some personal experience of running shoes would be very useful to me.
Much love
Originally posted by waroflogicI don't run, but i do jog. I have the worst feet in the world. The only way the could be any worse is if i had them cut off. However, i can jog with no pain since i bought a pair of NIKE 360's.

RunnersWorld has a really quality magazine - very innovative and inspirational.
My pronation is normal. I really liked Asics; they fit my feet really well. So many of my running shoes have been Asics. My only complaint with Asics perhaps is somehow maybe they seemed to feel a bit heavier towards the heel of the shoe.
I got Nikes once, Pegasus brand, I think, narrower shoe, they were fine.
Currently I have Adidas running shoes - no complaints. They're a bit thinner and lighter than the Asics ones I used to have I think but they're held up fine - and I ran cross-country this fall so they got good use. 🙂
I'd highly recommend that you get your shoes at a store that specializes at running because they know what they're doing. Running shoes are an investment, maybe $100-$120 now, but they'll last quite a while and they're comfortable to run in or to walk in when they get old.
These stores allow you to test the shoes on a treadmill or maybe even outdoors sometimes.
I like wearing running socks rather than cotton socks when running; with cotton socks, my feet callous.
Also putting newspaper in the shoes after a wet run helps the shoes dry quicker. :-)
Hope this helps.

I've never used "Shoe Dog", but I used to get their catalog and they had good advice in there. I imagine "Shoe Dog" will take you through a series of questions and make recommendations based on that.

There are many good brands, but by far the best thing for you to do is go to a specialty running store and they should be able to help you find something that's right for your foot.

Hi guys, cheers for feedback. I bought a pair of Asics Gel Nimbus 9's today based on the reviews on runnersworld.com and recommendations for people with supination. I wanted to go to a specialist running store however I don't have one local and also figured they would be more expensive.
They seem pretty comfortable but I haven't gone any serious distance in them yet. Hopefully I'll have a chance to try them out properly tomorrow 🙂

Running in the wrong trainers will cause injuries.
I hope the Nimbus 9's are the right ones for you... if they're not right, then it'll work out more expensive in the long run.
Build up the distance slowly. Max 10% increase in max distance covered weekly/ total monthly and factor in step back weeks 1 in 6 (so drop the total distance of your longest run and overall for that week by 10% ).
Also, try to get a second pair of trainers and rotate between the two - they'll last longer that way than two pairs bought and used consecutively.
Don't let all that stop you though - the important thing is to get out and enjoy yourself whilst out there 🙂
