I used to play Quake III Arena pretty well. We played it non-stop at one stage on my varsity hostel LAN.
There was this big dude, Bert, who lived 3 floors below me. I used to frag his ass constantly and it was great fun to hear his howls of frustration reverberate throughout the halls.
I can't hear your howls, so no thanks...

For some reason come any given holiday I'd go online as "Santa" or "Easter Bunny" and dominate.
I had macro buttons on my multi-button mouse to send messages like "Ho Ho Ho" or "Here Comes Peter Cotton Tail Hopping Down the Bunny Trail".
Fun times.
When we would LAN up 4 or 5 computers at the office we preferred Co-op modes, or Capture The Flag with a wad of bots on each team.
I used to make maps, skins, and weapon mods... It actually got me a 6 month job at $400 a week working evenings working a game that eventually bailed. That was too bad, I still have the demo disk at home.
As far as games went back in the day, I wouldn't play unless I could edit the game in some way. That's why I always prefer PC games over X-Box/Playstation and such.

The original post wasn't clear, but Quake live is the exact same thing as Quake III, but you can play it in a browser window. Overall is pretty fun.
Where is it hosted? Is there a website that does this, or is it basically a "private web site" kinda deal with user-set-up servers?
Bah, I read the OP again. quakelive.com okay, okay...
