I was bought a set for xmas and have decided to start learning the game. Wondered if anyone can supply any useful links for beginning players and whether playing this game has had any influence on their chess skills? It looks quite a tricky game to pick up. I'm intrigued by the fact that unlike chess, computer GO programs are no match for a decent player.
Originally posted by martinbeaverI've played a little bit of Go, and quite enjoy it. I played a few games against DoctorScribbles using the No Name Go Server, which is quite cool. Dr. S is pretty good, although I can't recomment any other RHP Go-ers.

A good place to play turnbased go (exactly like RHP is turnbased) is http://www.littlegolem.net/
You can play go against other newbies (like myself) on a 9x9 board (much easier than the 19x19 full-sized board).
You can go to http://senseis.xmp.net/ for explanations of the game for beginners.
Hope this helps.
