Originally posted by sonhouseActually, my power was out from 4-5 my time here in Wisconsin today! The lights did this little surge thing a couple times while something outside made noise. That something was the power box on fire! Then the power went out completely for an hour. As an added nice touch, the flames kept threatening the tree that's way too close to the pole.
Just had a nice lightning hit that took out our building (Inplane Photonics) in South Plainfield NJ. Just wondered if anyone else got zapped. Power was off for a bit then came back on but then I heard a lot of sirens outside right after. Its raining like hades right now.
Originally posted by sonhouseI had a lightning stike come very close to hitting me about three hours ago. I was in my truck and I saw the flash...every hair on my body stood on end and the thunderclap deafened me for 5 minutes... Scary!! I'm in Hendersonville, NC. 🙂

Originally posted by Cheshire CatI had that happen to me once too, except I was on a motorcycle, driving from Tuscon to Phoenix and when I hit the Superstition mountains a horizontal rainstorm came up suddenly and a my bike was going at about a 45 degree angle and thats when this lighning stroke hit so close I felt the HEAT on my neck, forget rising hair! I found a little covered bus stop on the side of the road and took what cover I could. That was close enough for me! I was suprised that I didn't actually get hit, I mean, a nice hunk of metal making like an antenna in a rainstorm, I think it hit the ground not more than ten feet behind me. I shudder to think what would have happened if I had been ten feet back that day.

Originally posted by sonhouseI miss good thunderstorms in NJ. I grew up there. We don't have them in here in California. Going to the Jersey shore in August though. I hope we get a good one.

Originally posted by reader1107It's kind of wierd out here. Plenty of rain in the winter, but hardly ever any thunder and lightning. If there is any, it's barely even noticeable. I know my kids would get a big kick out of a good violent thunderstorm.
Gee, you should've been here in the midwest a couple of nights ago! Thunder and lightning (and damage) enough to wake the dead! Course, I hate my storms being at 3 in the morning. I'm ok with daytime ones though.
Originally posted by rbmorrisI used to like watching them in Tucson because it only rains twice a year. We get a lot of those here in Wisconsin, though. That's why we're the dairy state: the storms scare the cows so badly that they don't give milk, they give cheese! Saves a lot of money on middlemen!
