I used to know it in my head to 200 decimal places. I was bored one day at the end of the summer holidays back in the old days of school so i memorised it. That's why i couldn't remember the next place......

I'm deadly serious about 200 places. Why, what do you mean about guiness? I was bored stiff. it's quite easy to memorise blocks of 5 numbers at a time.

There's an English guy from Kent, I think, who calls out the number [pi] to 1O,OOO decimal places and there's also supposed to be an asian who does it up to 2O,OOO. They are Savants. The English one was on a tv program where he learned fluent icelandic in 7 days and was tested on live tv afterwards....it was amazing.

At 1st I thought this was going to be another bad dirty limeric ......But I saw that guy on TV . He's amazing . Icelandic is supposed to be a very difficult language to learn and he did remarkably well .

Thats the neat thing about PI, it DOESN'T repeat, not ever.
It is like a random number series but deterministic, that is to say
if you find the place in the set where you are, you can calculate
the rest of the set to as far out as you like. I think comps have
done it to a trillion places or so.
Carl Sagan used to write about how there might be messages from
god starting at some point, the 900th quadrillionth digit or some
such. It is a good hypothesis and could be theoretically tested
for falsifiabilty but you have to have an infinite number of digits
to test for that.
It would be interesting if you could take the digits of PI and
make various sized matrices, say 27X27X27 or 6000X6000 using
the digits of pi and see if any images come up when analyzed
digit for digit putting the digits in an image generator as if it were
a digitized image and see if anything other than noise comes out.
The first matrix I mentioned, 27X27X27 is alluding to a
three dimensional image, a volume. There is no end to the
amount of matrices you could generate this way, some mathemetician
could have a ball in his den off in his own little matrix universe.
If you found some actual image, OMG!
