I used win media player to convert some music files to mp3 and
got such weird results I have sworn off using it ever again.
One music file I recorded on my own equipment, my own composition
on my own guitar, when win got ahold of it, all of a sudden it
was something called Fukija or something and the artists name
was actually in Japanese! Another one morphed into some
Australian, Cristina Marlian I think, but only PHOTO's! What a
disaster! You would'nt think it such a big deal just to convert
Wav files to Mp3 but windows MADE it a big deal. I went to
Roxio Easy Media Creator, version 8.5 and it did it no muss no fuss.
Crikey what a mess! After about three hours I finally got the
files emailed to Starmann for our little contest. Man, what a fiasco.

freezing when I would go to the media library.
So I downloaded 10 and at least I could access the library but then
I got these weird Japanese and Australian takeovers! I tried the
soundforge download, audacity, something weird happened there
too, my wav files told audicity it was a cda file I think thats what it
was, so soundforge said it was an unrecognized format! Thats when
I went to my Roxio which worked fine.

how long, pray tell, did it take you to discover this?...
Like the very first time. I had only used it before to play a cd which
isn't exactly rocket science but the instant I tried to do a conversion,
crash bam thank you maam. First time I NEEDED to do a convert.
I am into output not input so I don't make Mp3 files to play
100 songs on one CD or whatever, I write and record music which
starts out as a CMP file, (Cakewalk Music Project file) and then
gets mixed down to a wav file when you do the 'export audio' thing.
I made this stupid assumption I could depend on windows to do
a decent job of a simple conversion, boy was I wrong.
BTW, when I used Audacity, it said my wav file was something
called "CDA" and said it couldn't deal with that format, do you know
what a cda file is? I am not sure if its Cakewalk screwing up or
audacity. Everything else seems to think the same files are
WAV files so it points to a problem with Audacity. Any guesses here?

I think I have WMP 10, with a 3.8ghz 512 ram computer
What decoder did you use?
Edit: It appears you need to buy a $10 dollor decoder, or did you?
