Does it really matter. The runs are on the board.
Sure, it just probably won't happen again, as he has used up all his luck.

We actually got credit in the last test - all the luck went your way...

North looked like me batting against the SA bowling attack at times, but somehow managed to not nick a ball, Johnson just swung his bat and somehow just get it past fielders.
Ponting dropped on 67/3 was the biggest piece of luck though.

The referral system was also a bloody nightmare.
Boucher given out with no evidence of a nick, Haddin not given LBW with replays showing it was out.
Hughes not given out or referred after he gloved it.

About time we got some luck too!
You guys got your fair share out here. One nil, you beauty!
That referral system can go. It encourages dissent.

You only have Smith to blame for not referring the Hughes glove issue.

Johnson's inning reminded me of Steyn's innings in Melbourne.

The referral system does have both positives and negatives. At this stage i am not swayed either way.In saying that i am still a believer of the umpires decision is final whether he be right or wrong, its the way he sees it.

I've been clamouring for more TV umpire involvement for ages now, but this system seems a little half-baked...
I don't think it encourages dissent, because now you have a 'legal' avenue if you know the umpire made a mistake, instead of glaring and swearing under your breath at the umpire....

Sure, you should have limited referrals, but it needs a rethink. Possibly 5 or 6 per game? Not this 2 per innings rule... I don't know.
Some innings will go down with no problems, but others may be fraught with bad and/or difficult decisions.
Also, should the umpire maybe just refer ALL not obvious decisions? I know many people would say this will just slow down the games, but I think in the professional era it might be just what we need and I can't see games being slowed down that much. PLUS with the correct decision every time:
- Obvious draws will stay draws
- Wins will happen quicker, as the 'in' batsmen can get the runs quicker, or the bowlers will get the wickets they deserve - thus SPEEDING UP the games

The technology itself needs to be in place though, like 'hot spot' cameras.
And why no audio? Many times all the on-field umpire goes on is a sound, so why not give the third umpire the 'snickometer' and audio feedback?
See? Half-baked.

The ICC needs to come to the party to make sure the technology is there and used to its full potential.

South Africans got smashed.

Bring on the 3rd test for a whitewash

Ironic though, that they had to travel to the other side of the world to play as good as they have done.

Does it not bother you that Australia needs to retire Greame Smith for you to have a realistic chance to win a test?

Not at all.

If he used the bat to hit the ball instead of his hands then he wouldnt have to retire.

I think he played last test if my memory serves me right πŸ™‚

I love it how you Saffers were giving it to us Aussies whilst you won the series over here but now you are as quiet as mice.
