Originally posted by gorookyourselfUsually those folks are reservists. It's actually an ingenious system. You get points for attending drills (one drill = 4 hours; units have either 4 or 5 drills on their reserve weekend). You need so many points in a year to have that year called a 'good' year; i.e. a year that will count toward your retirement. By Memorial Day, units have been back in the field for three drill weekends. They're ready for a break. The parades are usually make-up opportunities. You might get two drills recorded for attending a single parade. Get it?
Anyone who is in the service right now and willing to explain.
Is Veterans day or Rememberance day mandatory or volunteer?
Do the troops have to participate or is it a choice?
Wow. in the UK you get told your doing drill for parade/armed forces day etc. n that's the end of it. Nothing goes on your report or anything. Not for any of the ones I've done anyways. All the lads who have "gone outside" tend to show up just to show some support, plus there's always a few drinks later in the day 😉
