they have to start somewhere - there has been other cases as well
a lithuanian player got a 2 match international ban for "simulation" against scotland in a world cup qualifier in 2007....
i think a ban is deserved and also like the 5 ref thing that is going to be trialed in the europa league thing (if thats the name - thing celtic are in now)
Originally posted by SilverstrikerI agree it's bad diving and that there should be some action but it all comes down to commitment.. If the world of football is ready to ban for diving for ANY club then I guess it's a fair rule.

i doubt it would have made much of a difference to the result, arsenal played some beautiful football, why mar it with a pansy diving incident. the technology is there, why it is not utilised i do not know. football has consistently opposed its use under the ludicrous guise that it will detract from the game etc etc etc, and that bad decisions are p ...[text shortened]... he interim, pretty scantily clad ladies could hand out free beer and munchies for all concerned.

Never the less, we are discussing a cheating offence, when in reality we should be talking about beautiful football, that's the real impact of this type of stupidity. I really hope that Eduardo is punished and perhaps it will have the net effect of making him and others think twice before bringing the game into ill repute. It seems to me that he has harmed no one but himself, for Celtic were outclassed regardless.

LOL
There would be to many nominations... impossible

I was reading a books named The Ball Is Round which is a pretty comprehensive look at the global history of football. In it, I found this qoute from an Italian national team manager (I'll have to go back and find out exactly which one) on the subject:
"The English teach their players how to play football. We teach our players how to win."

Originally posted by BIGWADNormally, I'd agree. But the passage in the books was directly related to diving and other forms of gamesmanship. And just so we're clear, I'm not insinuating that it's only the Italians or anyone else for that matter. Just saying that anyone who thinks that managers don't encourage diving (or, at best, cast a blind eye towards it) are being naive.

Originally posted by FleabittenI play for a small club in a mini league (nothing special) and we never dive.

I know it's not all the same as pro football but surely some managers just like clean football?
