ok... just a hunch... I have a feeling im one of those ppl with a white screen and an x where those should be. if so how do i make it so im not?

Crop your picture according to the proper dimensions (avatar pic = 50x50 pixels). Then, upload it to www.imageshack.us. Then put the url in your forum settings.
