Can someone please tell me why on earth away goals count in extra time ???
It is now a distinct advantage to play your first game at home because if it goes into extra time in the next game for are effectively getting
120 mins to score an away goal where as the other team only had 90 mins..

Therefore the advantage lies with the home team.
Originally posted by invigorateno not really because the home team can still win the game and go out so there is no advantage there.
Statistically a home win is most common result.

take madrid v juve last night.
1-0 to madrid in spain
1-0 to juve in italy
1-1 aggregate
now if madrid had scored in extra time juve would have had to score 2 to win. so assuming they both scored a goal in extra time the result of the game is 2-1 to juve who have won the game (2-2 agg), but juve go out to an away goal which is scored outside the standard 180 minutes. an away scored inside 180 minutes fair enough.
the fact being the away team in the second leg gets an additional 30 mins to score the crucial away game which is unfair.
both teams have had a home game so there is no tangible advantage garnered in that respect.
my point is why should either team be allowed extra time to score the away goal when it is of such vital importance.
Originally posted by dan182Maybe the problem here is extra time. If there were no "away goals" then the home team would have the advantage of playing the extra 30 mins at home. So after 180 mins there should be a third game in a neutral country that is played until some one wins.
no not really because the home team can still win the game and go out so there is no advantage there.

i know i would rather play extra time away from home - that said Juve did not have a problem with it last night.
