September 5, 1914 90 years ago George Babe Ruth hit his first professional home run with Providence which is a farm team for the Boston Red Sox. In 1919 he became the first man to hit a homerun in every stadium in the same year. When he played the average number of homeruns hit in a game were .68 today it is 2.31. Just thought I bring it up now that Barry Bonds is just 3 away from 700 homeruns becoming the third member of that special club. Will He catch Hank Aaron next year or perhaps pass him what are everyones thought on this.

Barry Bonds will need 20 asterisks to compare himself to Babe Ruth....

I think Ruth still holds the record for most shutouts by a left-hand pitcher in the American League. Don't think Barry's going to break that one...

The single season American League record for most shutouts by a left hander in one season is shared by Babe Ruth and Ron Guidry (9). The National League record is held by Sandy Koufax (11).

However, Ruth only had 17 shutouts in his career. The American League lifetime record for a lefty is held by Eddie Plank with 69. Plank pitched from 1901 to 1917, primarily with the Philadelphia Athletics. The most for any pitcher is 110 by the Washington Senator's Walter (Big Train) Johnson.
