about this time last year i had to take an extended break from RHP due to study and work commitments (i was doing both full-time). i slipped from 1517 in September 2003 to a low of 946 on 4 Jan 2004. It has taken this long to complete the long slow climb back to 1500. at one time, reaching 1500 was the height of my chess ambition, but now my goal is to overtake my pb of 1517, and hopefully continue on -maybe to 1600 or 1700!

thanks Dustin - it's a bit humbling though when i notice you've gone from <1200 on 27 Sept to 1952 today...sort of makes my snail-like climb look pretty meagre...

Welcome back to the 1500 club! As it happens my pb as Acolyte is also 1517, where I am now (I got higher as Incompetent, but frankly many of my opponents were overrated, and the standard has improved a lot since then). I'm about to take a tumble when my lucky streak ends, though... I don't think my standard of play will ever stretch to 1700 😳

Welcome to the 1517 club!

I'm at 1517 ... trying, trying to not drop below 1500 again.

It's tough .... just lately I slowed my pace dramatically and I think it's helped.

thanks everyone.

to celebrate, i've ordered Fritz 8 and a big book on endgames. they should arrive tomorrow and i can't weight to get into the opening/endgame training and other Fritz goodies. is there anyone else here who finds the training aspects of Fritz (or another program) has significantly helped their rating?

Congratulations, David! It is a long climb back from a slide like that. It speaks well of you that you have persisted this way. Keep it up! 🙂

Paul
