I have some yeast, does anyone know how I can make an alcoholic drink out of it? My friend scoured the net and only found one feasable method for making mead but it involves buying vodka, in which case we wouldn't need the mead!

Oh, and don't mention going to the pub, we're sick of Carling and guest ales, we want home brew extra strength 1 pint knocks your teeth out stuff!

And whilst we're on the subject, what's your favourite?

You can get beer brewing kits from Boots (if the branch is big enough).

EDIT: I'm partial to interesting traditional ales once in a while.

You can get beer brewing kits, but that will include yeast anyway (and I think Boots have stopped selling them altogether now, although most supermarkets sell them, and Wilkinson's is actually pretty good).
To make beer you'll need a home brew shop, though as you can't buy malt, hops, etc. anywhere else.

For wine-type recipes (and mead) try the forums here:

Have fun, and good luck!

Get yourself some malt ,barley, hops sugar, water and your yeast put it all together in a large barrel and let it ferment.

I found the easiest beverage to make was wine. I got too many off tastes and other things going wrong with beer.
As long as you give a wine you make plenty of time to mellow after it has finished fermenting, and you make sure that you sterilise all of your equipment properly, you can get a really good one. And you can make it up to about 18% v/v. Blow yer brains out dude. 🙄

Not all yeast makes good beer (...or wine) Inappropriate (...bread?) yeasts seldom make tasty brews.

A bit pricey but my current favourite is Innis & Gunn Oak-Aged Beer 😵 ...from Scotland. Delicious!
