What's your favourite line in a song?

"Those days are all gone now but one thing's still true
When I look and I find
I still love you."

Freddie Mercury - Queen.

"Frusna på en strand,
flög vi med drakar medans tiden flöt iland.
Vi var barn som ingen ondska kunde nå.
Himlen var så blå."

- Kenneth Gärdestad

That whole song is pure poetry in Swedish, but these are my favourite
lines. Wish I could translate them properly, but not even the English
version of the same song (written by Ted and Kenneth themselves),
does the Swedish version justice, so I won't even try. Sorry.

"när inga ungar längre finns är allting slut.
vad är det då för mening om man står ut?
visst har det blivit kaos i tidens lopp,
men så länge det finns ungar så finns det hopp. "

- Cornelis Vreswijk

Another favourite of mine. This one I can translate:

"When there are no more children, all is over.
What then is the meaning, if you can endure?
Certainly there is chaos in the course of time,
but there's still hope so long as there are children around."

"Frozen on a beach,
we flew kites while time went by.
We were like children no evil could reach.
The sky was so blue."

Of course the Swedish 'medens tiden flöt iland' directly translated would mean 'while time floated ashore', which gives more the whole beach scene, than the meaning 'as time went by'.

I hope you don't mind me translating.

The perfume of roses in May
Returns to my room in December.
From out of the past, where forgotten things belong,
You keep coming back like a song.

😕

I don't know. Directly translated it sounds kinda crappy, which is why I
didn't want to go there. It's pure poetry for me in Swedish, but in
English?.. Nah, I don't know. Maybe it's because English is not very
natural to me.

Take: "Frozen on a beach", for instance. In English, the word frozen
gives me the chills, but in Swedish it's as if describing a memory, frozen
in time, when we were children, our kites soaring high above us
underneath a blinding sun bathing in the blue skies, where no evil could
possibly reach us. I get this whole ocean air feeling, the sounds of waves
repeatedly grabbing for the shores and the joy I had as a kid playing on
the beach. It's all coming back to me when I read it in Swedish, but not
in its translation.

Though, that could be because I still don't feel very comfortable in
the English language.

Didn't mean to trash your translation, you understand. It's accurately
translated, of course. 🙂

It was early, I woke up
Still had a joint, so i puffed

(Shouldnt have 'coz it got me STONED
And my mom just moaned

Simon, its time to get a job
You're 20 years old and you're living like a slob
But theres so many things i wanna do Ma
I need money and i want to get a new car

Simon what do you mean?
Ive got a plan, it will all be clean
Got the joints and the beats rolling
Got the tunes on the decks strolling
etc...

Oh God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son"
Abe says, "Man, you must be puttin' me on"
God say, "No." Abe say, "What?"
God say, "You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin' you better run"
Well Abe says, "Where do you want this killin' done?"
God says, "Out on Highway 61."
