Back on topic and to be a bit serious for a moment, I still remember watching in horror as the reported death toll continued to climb following the 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean. First thousands, then tens of thousands, and finally hundreds of thousands. One of the most tragic disasters in human history, not to mention just this decade.

Culturally, it's a toss-up between the Bush administration and the advent of reality TV. Both made the 00's something I'd really rather forget.
