Back in the 70's I lectured to kids in one of the poorest school districts in the US. I did this for 5 years and refused to take a penny in compensation.
From 1996 to 2008 I took care of my aging mother, turning down several good offers to teach chess in other parts of the country. Unfortunately she passed away the day before the stock market crashed and the offers evaporated. I have no regrets.
