I posted this in the chess only forum awhile back
might reach a wider audience here
if you played bobby fischer, you would have a fischer number of one
if you played someone who played bobby fischer, you would have a fischer number of two and so on
does anyone have a fischer number of one?
mine is two
how about yours?

I checked that topic on Chess forum but it's been "expired" and now is closed.
I looked for it, because Tounisisan GM Slim Bouaziz (I thought he was older!) is going to play in Open Malta which starts in a few days.
I was so certain he had played with Fischer sometimes during sixties, and was looking forward to aquire official No-2.
I checked it on Chessgames.com, and - pluff! - he never played with Fischer not even in Soussse 1967 or some Olympiad before.
Damned.
Time's going only in one direction, we are not getting any younger, there are less and less chances for chessists to acquire No2...

true
My two fischer rating comes from playing gligorich who was giving a simultaneous exhibition
Svetozar Gligorich had a long time friendship with Fischer and had, I believe, a winning record against Fischer

gligorich lost 3 games
Yeah.....nice. Did he talk to you or give you any advice? I take it you were only a little whippersnapper when you played him.

Anyone who can trace his line to Gligoric links to every world's champion from Steinitz toFischer. Gligoric's career spanned generations: he played Spassky, Petrosian, Smyslov, Botvinnik, Tal, and Euwe; early in his career he played Milan Vidmar, Bogo, and Tartakower, and through them the link goes back to Alekhine, Capablanca, Lasker, and Steinitz.
