The other day, a good friend (male) who knows me quite well said to me, "Oh, quit cryin' about it, ya big baby!"

I appreciate everyone's responses, especially chaney3's Southern Cross mention, mchill's Aquinas quote, drewnogal's practical advice and as always, Torunn's wisdom.

Thank you all.
I know, it feels awful at the time, but later you will look back on it and say “what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.”

It does feel terrible but it is the price we pay for the happiness we felt. "The pain now is part of the happiness then." (From the film Shadowlands)

It may be easier to say than to live through!!

You have to walk a mile in the person's shoes as the old saying goes.

I have lived through that a few times.

Others handle it much better than others has been my experience in what I've seen in my life so far.

Because we are all different personalities and one experience is never same as another.

Exactly everyone has to handle it in their own way.

Some like to take it out on others as if that is going to help anything.

Only if you are Kelly Clarkson.

Well if nothing else at least this thread has brought out the best in some of us, we can get nasty to each other at times but we can also be this when it matters. Suzianne, I don't know you well, of course, but my perception is that you're a person of great sensitivity and intellect, and you'll be fine. Meantime, you've clearly got a lot of friends here, and I would be pleased and honoured if you would count me amongst them.

Thanks, Phil!

The right word at the right time can take the edge off of a trying day. This month and next, I'm slammed at work (I did 12 hours on the clock yesterday), so reading this in a down moment means a lot.
