The Boss started in a band in the 60's.. cut a record with The Castiles in 1966. He wrote hits like Blinded by the Light which was covered by Manfred Mann and ELO also Pink Cadillac for the Pointer Sisters...still love his version best.
We saw his only New Zealand concert in 2003... it poured with rain.. Bruce opened with CCR's "Have you Ever Seen The Rain" awesome.. For a 50 + guy guy he moved well doing running slides along the stage and pumping out music and moves for three hours.
His commercial albums brought him to the fore in the 70's .. Born to Run was huge.
For many his haunting working class lyrics from songs like the "The River" "Point Blank" "Paradise" and latterly "Empty Skies" are works which really soothe, inspire and sometimes choke.
The Boss released his latest Album "Devil's and Dust" on 26th April 05. It has gone to the top of the Album Charts in USA in Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, The United Kingdom, and Ireland.
On the album Listen to "Jesus was an Only Son" it shows his Catholic up bringing but should offend no one. A couple for the cowboys... "Black Cowboys" is for those Oke boys out there.
The title track Devil's & Dust is a good one for settling the mind on your faith in time of hardship and is for the soldiers in Iraq...hoping that when the chips are down their faith isn't clouded by Devils & Dust.
This Guy is a living legend.
Okay so who got laid after a Boss Concert... hands up!!!!
Any stories from the concerts, favourite songs and special moments.
Mine is that Auckland Concert and hanging on to his #1 fan...my wife!

I just don't get this Springsteen thing, I can't stand him. And I've given him chances, but I have to say I think his music is awful. Can anyone explain it to me? He's like the Seinfeld of the music world...
It's the voice, the songs, the whole package. BRILLIANT.
Originally posted by StarrmanI agree... put a Bruce record on and you may as well just march in time with your arms straight down by the side. Be sure to get those knees pumping up and down while you march in place.

I don't dig it.

He's like a cross between Bob Dylan, John Foggerty and David Gray.
Masses of people can't stand those guys. He's no great guitarist, he's no great singer... but he like the others's - original and consistant.
He hasn't changed... he still puts out lots of non commercial music that not every one likes and he doesn't care about that.

You see. Not finding Seinfeld funny says so much about you.
Perhaps you should just stick to "Friends" and "Boyzone"
🙂
The thing with Springsteen is, you can't judge his music until you've seen him play live. And I certainly wouldn't recommend an acoustic concert. You have to see him and the E-street Band.
Most people who I know don't like his music, but they'll go to every one of his concerts. Then when you listen to the songs on record, you find yourself actually quite liking them, because they remind you of the concert.
It sure as hell isn't his lyrics that carry his songs anyways.
Listen to side B of "The wild, the innocent & the E-street shuffle" and the A side of "Born to Run" if you want to hear him at his best.
Lyrically "Darkness on the edge of town" was his best.
