i used to play a lot of yahoo chess, sometimes spending 5 - 6 hrs a day playing constant 10min games.... i found the problem i had with this was when i finished playing i couldnt shift my mind from chess logic to life logic.... for example, i would go to work and think if i work this way, this will happen, which will make this happen, which will make my boss see what i'm doing which will earn me a payrise... i would even go to the supermarket and think if i go down this semi busy aisle then the five people behind me won't be able to come down it because they all have trolleys so i'll be able to shop quicker etc...

it's kinda difficult to explain but i even used it driving, working out where other drivers would turn off to know whether i should take the shortcut or not... most of the time it worked but after a few hours normal logic resumed and i couldnt get that way of chess thinking back...

question: am i crazy?

You are listing almost basic life skills of modern man - what the hell does chess have to do with any of this?

Sounds like you need to study the game a bit more ....

Perhaps you just need a little rest away from the game?

Sometimes I am studying for an exam or listening to my professors and it interferes with my thinking about my next chess moves. It even happens sometimes when I'm making a nice dinner. For instance, I'll think that it needs more salt or pepper, when really I was advancing a white pawn or attacking with black. I really need to stop letting those mundane worthless activities interfere with my chess games.

Sounds maybe like a delayed transition from the right back to the left lobe. Sort of an operation overthink, because you were temporarily

still processing in a circular fashion with straightforward linear tasks. Wondering if chess motifs or other competitive themes were present in

your dreams at the time. No, you're not crazy. Just a cerebral guy who presents a good example of 'laughing at ourselves,' Thanks.

Is there anything "crazy" in utilitarian calculations? Try instead a senseless, completely intuitive bishop sacrifice - while having a chat with your boss, for example.

But seriously, I know what you mean. Some of the positions in my games really haunt me when I go to bed at knight....

However, I think being "crazy" means that you're unable to acquire a reflexive distance towards yourself, and that's not obviously the case here.

It could be a cool pick-up line: "If I remove your pawn (point to the victim's current partner), can I mate you?"

or maybe not...

Hey, Shav... en passant (without permission or hesitation) also comes to mind.

Everyone needs to touch a bishop now and then.
