In US and canada and probably other right side countries, drivers can often make a right-on-red (traffic light) if the road is clear. Can you guys from left side countries do the same thing left? I've always wanted to know this.

We in New Zealand (Left side drivers) trialled "Give Way Left on Red" at two or three specially advertised intersections. Our drivers couldn't handle it. The crash rate at those intersection went up astronomically. The trial was cut short.
You guys would love our give way to the right rule.. At uncontrolled intersections you give way to traffic coming from your right. When you make a left turn you give way to right turning traffic. Over seas drivers hate it. When I employed it instictively in UK a couple of years ago the right turning drivers loved me!! just thought I was being nice...
