The fact that there have been innocent men convicted of murder is enough cause to do away with capital punishment.
Carrying the same logic to an extreme, you would obviously support not putting anyone in jail either (Don't want to incarcerate an innocent man). The judicial system may be (very) flawed, but it's all we have, and laws have to be enforced. If a death sentence is handed down for a heinous offense, then it should be carried out, alloowing of course any exculpatory evidence that may come about. And why IS this discussion in the general forum?

You can be set free from jail - you cannot be released when you are dead.
If society kills it is condoning killing.
Cardinal sin putting inteligence in general forum

If they shoot you for a crime you did not commit the damage is irreversible. If they lock you up and later discover that you are innocent they can free you and give you some money as compensation.

I think you would prefer option 2.

How bout if they made the judge, jury, attorneys and investigators involved in a case where someone was put to death who was not guilty be made to pay the price of murdering an innocent person. Likewise if a guilty criminal gets off.

Well, you can't very well give people back the years that they spend in jail either, unless of course you have found the fountain of youth. Money is no compensation for years in prison, and the stigma that you carry through life after being set free. So why prosecute criminals at all? We can't be 100% sure that anyone is guilty, can we? I agree also that judges, lawers, police officers, jurists etc. should all be put to death if it is found that an innocent man was executed...just like all women should be raped if they wrongly identify a suspect, all store owners should be forced out of business if their cameras lead to the ID of the wrong suspect in a robbery...etc. I think you see where I am going with this. But I'm done now...I avoid the debate forums on purpose, sorry I got involved here.
