- based on a true story from 2009
- fast paced, tense, seemed realistic
- Tom Hanks in an everyman-as-hero role
- The Somali actors were amateurs from Somali communities in Minnesota and Ohio.
- in the final scene, a female Navy service member "played" her actual Navy job, and the scene was ad-libbed, or, perhaps more accurately, written during the takes. Hanks deserves an acting nomination for this scene alone.
- puts a rather positive spin on the U.S. Navy and on the U.S. in general.
Recommended especially for males 18-34, though my wife liked it a lot and so did I.

I was just curious "why".
Some of the reviewers I read specify it as a demographic that is targeted by the movie industry. I think there are two kinds of movies they have in mind: those like Diehard or Hurt Locker, and those like Dumb and Dumber or American Pie. The demographic isn't literally 18 - 35, it's a state of mind.

According to the movie, not one gun. It was intentional company policy not to fight, although a form of water cannon was deployed (numerous ones, which except for a malfunction, might have worked).
