Seems my post to Uncle Adam about watvhing out for other drivers was somewhat prophetic. Saturday morning I was involved in a major car crash on Stephen's Pass in Washington. A minivan decided to cross the 4-lane highway right in front of us and we T-boned it doing 50 mph.
I and my brother's fiancee were airlifted the 70 miles to Harborview Medical Centre in Seattle (apparently this looked cool as we had a helicopter each flying in formation at 160 knots) with neck and back injuries. Luckily neither of us have spinal damage but we're both in extreme pain from bruising and muscle damage. I have to stay off work for a week and she's not allowed to fly home until Thursday.
Some observations:
1) the other driver was charged by the State Patrol
2) back boards are extremely uncomfortable when you're strapped to one for 6 hours - they don't take it off until all the x-rays have come back clear
3) I'll always make sure we have a Suburban - there were 6 people in it as I drove along including my two kids and everyone was fine except us two.
4) no matter how carefully you drive, there's always some idiot that will screw things up for you
Anyway, I'll be able to catch up with all my chess games this week as I lie in bed.
Cheers,
Paul.

Bennett - that's very cool of you to offer but I'm at home in bed now. On the plus side, my boss has told me not to think about work for a week so I'll be able to spend a bunch of time on chess.
