Or not! New cars often have design problems in their first launch stages. Would it surprise you to know that certain companies? especially ones beginning with F often know about these problems but work out what the financial risks are versus the fatality risks and compromising current production are? If one stops a car plant producing 1 car worth 20,000 every minute then 1 Hour is lots of money. Transpose that into a day and it's huge. Design problem? What's the probability of death in this vehicle? Maybe 5 people per year if crunch is in a certain position with another vehicle. 5 people sue?? for car failure? OK.. Pay out 30M in court for each one......... this goes on...... really. Work it out financially. Car recalls happen rarely now because it's cheaper to buy a percentage of death. My career in automotive vehicle launch may end because of this thread if it is relayed back to me..... but I think manufacturers don't have the right to buy risk of life...... versus their profit costs????

Your question was, "Would it surprise you...?"

Nope.

The whole human race is a bunch of guinea pigs getting tested on and killed in the name of progress. If a few people die so that companies can stay in business so that they can innovate new and better products, well just consider it an investment for the future.

Dude, what are you talking about? It's that way in just about every industry. It sucks, but that's life...or death (depending on your perspective).

So if an microwave oven exploded in someone's face? That would be top news!! Wouldn't it? So the car manufacturers get away with it do they?

Fine I'll come and murder your family and take your money. I'm in the business of home robbery/massacres. Live with it.
