When ity comes to suscribers and non suscribers there's a cartesian cult of disdain emanating from the prior aimed towards the latter.
Non suscribers should be made to feel welcome within the vestibules of the sphere of forums.
So tell me subscribers, where's the love!!

You are right, non subscribers are the future subscribers. Some are under the impression that non subscribers are more likely to join if they are verbally abused and beaten about the head a few times. Sad really.

The difference is that during those 6 months I didn't once think to come into the forums and quibble about the site and demand more for free.
I think that what you get as a non-sub is more than adequate if you want to play chess, you've got full forum access and 6 concurrent games for life.
In order to entice people to contribute to the site's ongoing improvement a carrot must be dangled, and I think $30 a year for Tournaments, Sieges, Clans and unlimited games is extremely good value.

The problem is that all too often it's not that specific person who gets the blame, it's "those non-subscribers". And sometimes non-subscribers get a huge reaction to a very small thing, just because it triggers the "oh-no-not-those-stupid-nonsubscribers-again"-button of some people.
