So, I sleep on the couch in our livingroom and I always have the ceiling fan on and it's directly above me on one side. Whenever it's on full blasts it always shakes and seems like it's about to fall directly on my head. Does this happen to anyone else? Is anyone else scared of dying by way of ceiling fan?

Actually it's one of the ways I don't mind dying by. Can you imagine the headline?

Maybe try dusting the top of the blades. Dust can cause an imbalance. Or try to see if there is anything else causing an imbalance.

We used to play a cool game with our ceiling fan. You get some rat traps and set them on top of the blades, the more the better. Then you get everyone playing into the room and turn it on. I was the champion.

But that's just it, I don't get stoned! It just shakes and I'm sure one of these days it's going to shake loose. And other people see it's loose aswell. Hmm, could this be an attempt of my parents to kick me off the couch?

Lol, awesome, I should try that. And I'm not surprised that you were the champion, only makes sense.

Possibly, I don't think there's that much dust on there though. I think the base might be loose on the ceiling but I'm not sure. I should dust it though, it makes me sneeze badly sometimes.

What's a fan?

I don't think I've come across a ceiling fan that doesn't shake on full speed. They never seem to come off. Its a bit of a catch 22. Medium doesn't keep you cool enough, while high is too loud and incites wild fantasies of decapitation.

There's a show called "Mythbusters" two Hollywood guys who build stuff for movies, set up stunts and etc debunk urban mythology.
One of the myths busted was decapitation by ceiling fan.
They built a relica of a human head and shoved it in the fan. No damage, maybe a bruise.

EDIT: I'm scared of getting an eye put out by the little metal tips on umbrellas ...

I saw that... the best is when they juice it up at the end so it Will Kill. I think they still were only able to scalp the skull... since the head can't get up quick enough for a clean cut at the neck.

I used to work at South Pier Fish and we would throw whiting up into the blades. They were industrial fans, and would whack the fish and send it flying a good 3 feet or so... The boss ended that game after there were several fish in the rafters and the flies came in.

I really like the mouse trap game...

I'm more scared of losing an eye from the little umbrella in my drink...

Galaxy, your fan is either not tight enough, or unbalanced. Likely unbalanced. Stick a wide elastic around the end of each blade, and then, one at a time, add a coin under the elastic as a counterweight, until you find which one benifits from the added weight. Use different coins for different weights. Once you get it balanced out, take the elastics off and Crazy glue the coins to the top of the blade.

Or go sleep in a different room.

Well my son is 6 foot 3 and installed a ceiling fan in his room which had a 7 foot ceiling. Hmmm, whats wrong with this picture?

Try fixing the fan to a wall. Then if it does shake itself off, it'll just cartwheel around the room and lay down.

We had one of those for years and no matter how much i tried to balance it or tighten the screws it was always shaky on full speed. Did look a little scary at times but it never came off.

We did attempt a few tamer versions of the games mentioned above but nothing as scary as mouse traps - that sounds like it could get pretty sore lol.
