The IRC Java chat client is a bit of an experiment - as soon as you
use Java, you get problems (this site doesn't use Java anywhere else
for this reason)
If it doesn't work, all I can do is apologise, really.
Post here what browser you are using, and I at least can take a look
for you - but no promises!

There are a couple more options apart from java , there are
drawbacks for me if i do this.
Cgi based chat ...nice but eats cpu time :-(
PHP based chat .. basix and uses 1-2mb per user.
Either case it put's a havy load on the servers. I am still looking for
other options. But at the moment the only way to the chat server is
Java or using a windows/mac based client.
