why when an order is made in a kitchen is "Check On" shouted to tell the chef (or whome it may concern) that they have to make an order?i can understand why something is shouted, but why "check on"?
Because the little piece of paper that the order is written on is referred to as the 'check' -as it is used for billing after the order has been completed. They place the 'check' on the big silver wheel that is used for orders waiting...thus "Check on!"
