Checkers strategy?

Checkers strategy?

I can play Chess at the 1500 level when I focus on one game.
Which isn't amazing but it isn't that bad.

I can't win at Checkers to save my life. :'(

I've always been interested in Checkers due to it's minimalistic approach.

No monarchy...almost communist 😉

I want to improve but how?

Is it just concrete analysis?

Or is their strategy involved?

Have any books been published?

Anyone with help?

I want to improve but how?: Read below

Is it just concrete analysis? : Cement? What you talkin' about?

Or is their strategy involved? : Yes. Step out in front of the cab (not in New York) to flag 'em down.

Have any books been published?: Yes. How to Nab a Cab by Woody Allen published by Penguin

Anyone with help?: Yes. Read above.

delay forward progress as long as possible. Control the edges. Do not move your back row.

Simple 3 step process.

Instead of controlling the edges you should bust the fiddle out and dance a jig.

all very sound advice.

additional to this, always remember that it is a case of "can take, MUST take" and try to use this to your advantage.

Oh hell yeah there are checkers books, there are checkers openings, endgame analysis, etc., just like in chess.

Ya...used ones from 1942.

I was hoping for something recent.

Looked all day. Nothing.

I play chess checkers and backgammon and I must say chess is the easiest.

In chess you see what needs to be done.(Analyzing 3 moves does a lot)
In backgammon you need to calculate odds.(Hard as hell...Luck and Strategy is hard to mix)
In checkers you have 2 pieces each and white wins in 21 moves.(seriously I saw a puzzle that long)

And people think checkers is easy?

Come back when you're world champ and have beaten deep rybka 3, then tell us chess is easy. Calculating odds is not the hardest type of math out there especially when you don't have any 'hidden' scenarios and checkers has been solved.
