Hi. I've asked this in the Chess Only Forum as well. Just trying to get as many views as possible.
I am looking to buy a pc chess program. I want it to have lessons, training, be able to play set openings etc.
I really don't have a clue where to start. I see Fritz 9 is coming out soon, and £19.99 is the sort of price I like!!
Any advice would be appreciated.
Kev
I have CM10, which I find enjoyable, there are a lot of training things and tournaments which you progress through and open up new ones as well as simply loads of opponenet types and ranks to play against. However, it's not the easiest program to use, sometimes it's a little confusing if you're trying to work out how to change certain settings or set up particular types of game. I haven't used any others, so I don't have any comparison against which to present, but you could do worse.

Originally posted by StarrmanYes, I am very happy with CM10, too. Fritz may be stronger, but IMO that's irrelevant for players like you and me who won't come close to beating any of those programs anyway. Waitzkin's Chess Academy, which is part of CM10, is really good.

Originally posted by NordlysThanks guys. Yeah it's the training part I'm looking for - after all I expect a ZX80 could beat me at chess!

The best part? It's under ten quid!
Originally posted by StarrmanMy dad is such a dink sometimes! He was supposed to do several exercises to get use of the hand back. Well, as soon as the hand was able to hold a golf club, he stopped the therapy!? So, at least he can hold a golf club, and I’m sure the grip is fine for fishing when he retires... what a chump!
Sorry Phlab, I feel bad now. It is true, but it doesn't bother me, that part was a joke. I hope your dad is okay otherwise.

Back to subject... I've got CM9k and it is a better learning tool than fritz. I'm sure CM10K added some more great stuff too! I really like the lessons, and the natural voice analysis is great also. It is far better for users rated around us.
