i want to buy a chess game 4 my comp and i know "chessmaster 10" is a good one, but are ther any better ones?

Shredder 9 .. Shredder’s world championship titles:
Jakarta 1996: World micro-computer chess champion
Paderborn 1999: Computer chess world champion!
London 2000: World micro-computer chess champion
Maastricht 2001: World micro-computer chess champion
Maastricht 2002: blitz world champion
Graz 2003: Computer Chess World Champion and blitz world champion.

Shredder may be a good engine, but you have to look at what else you want.. built in DB? good interface? also. make sure that you have compability with your OS (chessmaster 10 says not compatible with win2k)

yes.. I've heard it works.. which... I wish I knew.. I just read the box and the home page, and it said it wasn't compatible, and that there were some issues reported.

Fritz8 or 9 is good, maybe too good... However you get a free ride
at playchess.com, a site with lots of GM action like the ICC (Internet
Chess Club) You play fast games there, 1 min, 2 min, 5, whatever.

do you have to buy these online? i've never seen anything but Chessmaster in stores.
