Yesterday I was at work as usual ... and sunday's are always boring as
hell... I always though of playing some good chess, but I had no
connection in my office. I have rival installed in the computer but it's
not very exciting to play against a computer... so I decided to call my
friend Éric (known as Trud on RHP) and we started a chess game by
phone! First time I've tried that and it was kind of cool... He was
playing with his chess set and I was playing my move with rival. I was
wandering if I was the only one who tried to play chess that way? Or
perhaps have you tried some other unusual way or place to play chess?

This is dangerously close to another activity that people do on the phone when they can't be
together.... I wonder what your therapist would say about this....

who won by the way?

The PhD is going well, I was simply deferring to our North American friends on the therapist
front... Don't worry, I haven't lost the inherent bitterness and cynicism of the English mind
just yet...! ;-)

Glad to see that; Joseph my dear fellow, thought that you had been
diluted from your statutory cynicism which had been engrained through
hardy years at KES and general british attitude; I even thought that
the overly energetic enthusiasm of those you are domiciled with had
uplifted you into a different person, but glad to see that you are still
bitter and twisted too,

Your fellow depressive

I actually have done that...although blindfold style...I had no board
around me but actually went 38 moves in a Lopez before I really
couldn't remember where the hell stuff was.

Alot of fun though.

Interesting.I hope it was a local call.Perhaps this is why I can't seem to get
thru to when I have some sort of question or something.

Many, many moons ago,I used to play on Citizen's Band Radio.I wonder if anyone
even knows what that is.

Our Outlook at work has a Chess form that automates the whole
process (with a board that updates automatically, etc.). I'd play two or
three games a day. Then they got wise and required an administrator
access to play chess over the LAN! Now THAT is funny!
